Michael graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Studies and a minor in Business. After college he worked as a sales representative at Dell Computer, and then Triton Sports Management, both in Austin, Texas. While there he learned invaluable lessons in business and negotiations. Then In January 2008 the oil field called his name and he took advantage of an opportunity to begin work as a landman, never looking back.
Before co-founding Philip Reed Energy Group, LP, in 2013, Michael worked as a contract landman in the Permian Basin, Barnett Shale and Eagleford Shale for companies including Chesapeake, Range Resources, Carrizo Oil & Gas, Clayton Williams Energy and ConocoPhillips. Michael had various responsibilities throughout this period, which included all aspects of title, title curative, due diligence, oil and gas lease acquisition, right-of-way acquisition and settling surface damages for right-of-way and surface operations. He became a student of the business, taking every opportunity to extend his understanding of the client’s needs, add new skills, and broaden his capabilities within land management. He now uses this knowledge and understanding each and everyday with his hands-on approach to project management for Philip Reed clients.
Michael is a member of the Houston and San Antonio Chapters of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen, and the International Right-of-Way Association. He holds certification as a Registered Professional Landman with the American Association of Petroleum Landmen, and a Right-of-Way License through the Texas Real Estate Commission. He lives in Belton, Texas with his wife, Lezlie, two boys, Southern and Griffin, daughter, Austyn, and is a member of Vista Community Church. When he is not working Philip Reed projects or spending time with his family, he enjoys playing pick-up basketball and golfing.
