Matthew graduated from the University of Texas A&M in College Station in 2000, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science. He first went to work as a Feed Commodities Broker, and after only 2 years, took a management position with an Agricultural Chemicals Company in Victoria, Texas. This opportunity gave Matthew the chance to learn how to manage multiple individuals located in various areas of South Texas, all working together for a common goal. After 2 years of sharpening his management skills, he took advantage of an opportunity to work as a Petroleum Landman for an independent South Texas oil and gas operator, and his career in land management had begun.
Before co-founding Philip Reed Energy Group, LP, in 2013, Matthew worked as a contract Landman for 9 years all over Texas for companies including Magnum Hunter, EOG Resources, Carrizo Oil & Gas, Clayton Williams Energy and ConocoPhillips. Throughout this time, Matthew was able to hone his skills in all areas of title, title curative, due diligence, oil and gas lease acquisition, seismic permitting, right-of-way acquisition and surface support. While all of these responsibilities were instrumental in developing Matthew into the Land Pro he is today, it’s always been his deep-seeded work ethic and ability to effectively communicate with land and mineral owners that’s separated him from the rest.
Matthew is an active member of both the Houston and San Antonio Chapters of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen, the International Right-of-Way Association, and is co-owner of Eye From The Sky Aerial Photography, which specializes in Oil and Gas Aerial Photography in South Texas. He holds a Certified Professional Landman certification through the American Association of Professional Landmen, and a Right-of-Way License through the Texas Real Estate Commission. Matthew lives in Shiner, Texas with his wife, Shana, two girls, Riley and Skylar, and his son, Matthew. He enjoys hunting, golfing and spending time outdoors. Matthew and his family are members of the Shiner Catholic Church.
